Above is a purple arct that has some characteristics of a STEVE arc but is likely a standard vertical curtain. At right are Venus and the crescent Moon below,above the glow of twilight. Orion is left of centre,with Sirius embedded in the dunes arc. This is looking southwest to west. The time was about 9 pm MDT.

This is a 300° panorama of the Northern Lights over Yellowknife, NWT on the night of Sept 6-7, 2019, during a sub-storm outbreak at 12:45 a.m. when the sky went wild with aurora. There were curtains and rays everywhere. The display soon subsided into a general wash over the sky.

The rays have a strong vertical structure from precipitating electrons but were pulsing off and on rather than rippling. While the predominent colour is green,there is a lot of red and magenta mixed in. The rays are converging upward to the magnetic zenith. This is looking east over my house.

Coolangatta beach is a stunning, long, white sandy beach and the sea is a great temperature for swimming. There are also a number of local points which are great for surfing for people who have done it before, and for those who havn't, you can easily get lessons at one of the various Coolangatta surf schools.

The Roman Catholic church was built in 1911 by English, Russian German immigrants. It served a dwindling congregation until 1991 when it closed. At that time workers found a time capsule from 1915 with names of the priest and parisioners of the day. In summer of 2014 the Church suffered its latest indignity when the iron cross on its steeple tower was stolen. It was there when I stopped at this Church on a site scouting trip in M
