The Full Moon of July 31,2023 rising at the end of a long line of high tension towers across the prairie near Milo,Alberta. Some smoke in the air made the rising Moon even redder than normal, making it look like an eclipsed Moon. This night the alignment of the rising point of the Full Moon coincided with the angle of the powerlines off to the southeast at 135° azimuth.

Mars is about to be occulted by the Full Moon on December 7, 2022. This is ingress with the eastward moving (i.e. right to left here) Moon about to cover up Mars on the Moon's western limb. The sky had thin cloud adding the colourful halo, or "corona," around the Moon, so the sky is not black.

A faint aurora glowing over the harvest in progress this night, with trucks and combines lighting the field at left, and the Harvest Moon itself - actually three days after Full Moon - lighting the scene at right. The combination of lighting from manmade and natural sources makes for an interesting illumination on the grain bins. The Big Dipper is left of centre, pointing down to Arcturus at far left, and Perseus is at right. The Pleiades are just rising over the far right bins.

The stars of the Big Dipper over the iconic peak of Pyramid Mountain from Pyramid Island, a popular location in Jasper National Park, Alberta, for nightscape and aurora photography. This was on a very clear night in mid-October, 2022, with many aspen stands still in full autumn colour. The images for this scene were shot at moonrise, with the waning gibbous Moon off frame at right lighting the sky blue and landscape with warm alpenglow moonlight. As bonus, a short bright meteor and its orange "smoke" trail appeared on the sky exposures. I shot this during the first weekend of the 2022 Jasper D

The rising of the Full Moon on Easter eve, Saturday, March 31, 2018, on a very cold night with lots of snow still on the ground in Alberta. So this is more a winter Moon than a spring one. This is the “paschal” Moon – the one that defines the date of Easter, being the first Full Moon after the vernal equinox. The first Sunday after that Full Moon, in this case the next day, is Easter Sunday.
