Train de la Rhune new diesel locomotive train, Sare, France. The new System Strub racks were supplied by the Swiss company Tensol Rail. In the process, a two-axle diesel rack-and-pinion locomotive from Stadler Rail was also purchased for the construction work and later for emergencies, an aluminium-built rescue car for possible evacuations, a wagon for inspecting and repairing the overhead line, as well as other aids, although during the last 99 years there had only been one emergency where such aids would have been helpful.

A framing of the converging rays of aurora overhead at the magnetic zenith,a little south of the true zenith at 90° altitude. This was the superb Kp6 to 7 display on March 23,2023,with the aurora in a pulsating mode rather than forming rippling curtains. Leo is just below the convergence point. The Big Dipper is at top. At this time later in the display the rays showed a lot of red as well as green. A short exposure helped freeze the rapid pulsations and capture the structure.

A 300° panorama of an aurora from the Churchill Northern Studies Centre, in Churchill, Manitoba on February 26, 2022. This aurora was at Kp1 level (very low) and appeared only as featureless grey arcs to the eye. But the camera picked up unusual red colouration, and even some yellow-oranges, along with the more normal greens. The reds are odd for such a low-level aurora as the oxygen reds typically appear only when the aurora gets very active and energetic. The display did brighten more later this night when it took on the more classic green arcs, with occasional lower fringes of nitrogen pink

Moonlight from the waxing gibbous Moon low in the southwest illuminates the scene. Jupiter is rising at far right low in the southeast. This was taken when the display was at its most active. This is the line-up of planets across the southwestern sky on December 6, 2021, consisting of (L to R): Jupiter, Saturn and Venus, with the 2.5-day-old waxing crescent Moon in conjunction below Venus. The Moon had eclipsed the Sun two days before on December 4, when it was on the ecliptic. Two days later it was below the ecliptic line. Jupiter and Saturn are in Capricornus, with its stars all visible here in the evening twilight. The three planets are nicely equally spaced. Such an array makes the ecliptic line visible.
