A selfie with me observing the North America Nebula in the fading moonlight (thus the blue sky) on August 8, 2019 from home, using the Astro-Physics Traveler 105mm refractor on the Mach One mount. I was comparing views with various nebula filters this night. So I was actually observing! In this case using the 31mm Nagler eyepiece.

Transit of Venus, June 8, 2004, from Luxor, Egypt. A single image taken near mid-transit. Taken with a Sony DSC-V1 digital camera shooting afocally through a 40mm eyepiece and on a 90mm apochromatic refractor, equatorially mounted and driven. Shot thru a Baader solar filter, which gives a white Sun. Yellow coloration added in Photoshop.

This is the rich star cluster nicknamed Caroline's Rose,or officially NGC 7789,in Cassiopeia. Caroline Herschel, sister of William Herschel, discovered it in 1783. In the eyepiece its stars do take on the appearance of nested rose petals. Subtle effects like that are always lost in photos of star clusters.

Astronomer Vance Petriew at the eyepiece of his 20-inch Dobsonian reflector telescope, at the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Star Party in Cypress Hills, SK. This is a single 20 second exposure with the Canon 5DMkII at ISO 4000, and 24mm Canon L-series lens at f/2. A faint aurora adds the horizon colours. The photo was taken on the occasion of the second return of Comet Petriew 185/P since its discovery 11 years earlier in 2001 at this very same location.

Transit of Venus, June 8, 2004, from Luxor, Egypt. A composite image (layered in Photoshop) of individual multiple shots taken from just after 2nd contact to just before 3rd contact.
